Non-profit community organizations that offer services to South Bronx residents are encouraged to apply for funding from CITGO Petroleum Corporation’s charitable foundation, The Simón Bolívar Foundation.

The foundation is accepting letters of interest for grants in the areas of education, environment, healthy living and arts and culture. Eligible non-profits can apply online by clicking on the Foundation’s website: www.simonbolivarfoundation.org. Applications must be received by March 27, 2014. CITGO, based in Houston, is owned by the national oil company of Venezuela. It established the Bronx Social Programs grant in 2007. In recent years, The Simón Bolívar Foundation has provided grants to community organizations such as Pregones Theater, The Bronx Documentary Center and Casita Maria.

A volunteer community advisory panel made up of local residents with expertise in education, the environment and arts and culture will review the applications and recommend programs to receive funding.
